All good advice above. 1000 miles seems soon for exhaust gasket failure but you never know. One more possibility: next time it misfires take a quick look at the FI light. If it comes on then goes off you either have a fuel injection problem (duh!) or maybe a problem with the immobiliser antenna that detects your key. The antenna can fail and gives similar symptoms.

I must admit i haven't seen a Light on on the dash, but i may have missed it because i was concentrating on not dropping the bike. I will look out for it if it happens again.

    Many thanks.

    Re: Back firing Vara!!!!!

Funny that....Mines an 09 model to and although it's not as bad as what yours seems mine suffers from a small poping problem when it's started up after it's only slightly warm.

What I mean by that is say I start the bike up from cold (No problem then ,it's ok from cold)..Then I might ride into town park up and return a while later and start up again, and it's then that it usually gives a little miss beat and splutter now and then but I got to admit it's not a problem when running.

I did mention it to the Honda dealer who basically said it does sometimes happen due to the fact it's fuel injected and not warmed up so the fuel is not quite flowing......Make your own decision on that one!

Like I said, it's not a major problem and no issue when riding so I can live with it and only a few miss beats when starting up.

    Re: Back firing Vara!!!!!

UPDATE: Well checked the exhaust gaskets, they seem ok, went for a ride and she popped back twice at different intervals on the ride. Both occasions when adding throttle (Wanting to pull away after over-run). If it stays like this i can live with that, but i have lost confidence when doing slow manoeuvres on it.
Hopefully that will pass, but its always in the back of your mind......will it or won't it?

If anything else develops i will update the thread.
    Thanks for all the advice.

    Regards Weeble.

    Re: Back firing Vara!!!!!

Try a different fuel supplier. My 55 plate injected vara used to do this occasionally and it would be fine for months on end and then it would cut out two or three times in a few days. In saying that in 18000 miles it probably only had about three bouts of these shenanigans.

It never lasted beyond the next tank of fuel so I just put it down to poor fuel.

Weeble, we've a member who works at CJ Ball. Should I bring this thread to their attention and see if we can get some proper customer service going?

Dunno if you've tried googling this at all, this seems worth a read:

Yer that would be great, the link in the next post is describing exactly what my vara is doing!!!! It also states alot higher idle speed than my bike is set at!!http://varaderoforumcom.h826747.serv...er=asc&start=0

Maybe i should take it back to CJ Ball and get them to have another go!!
Im not very happy with the result so far.

    Re: Back firing Vara!!!!!

    UPDATE:
Well its been a month and 300 miles and the idle gremlin is back. I have changed the fuel supplier and this had made no difference unfortunately.
I have contacted C J Ball again and they are having the bike back again to have another go.
I hope they can sort it out this time, im getting really cheesed off with this, to be honest its getting to the point where im going to give up on the vara. altogether .
I know it seems rash but after having a Blackbird for 6 totally trouble free years its a bit of a slap in the face for a nearly new bike to give me this much hassle in such a short space of time.

    Regards (a GUTTED) Weeble.
