    Engine Oil?

Bit of a numpty question. What spec engine oil do you use in the Varadero. Owners handbook says 10W30, Haynes manual says 10W40! Which is it?

I'm more inclined to believe the Honda Owners manual, 10W30, especially as we are now heading towards winter!

i dont think the varadero is fussy. ive just had the 12k service and they put honda racing fully synth in it! thats over the top. i wouldve questioned it but i didnt have to pay extra for it, they do inclusive servicing now so if they put gloop in thats £10 a litre thats their lookout

10w 40 is better at higher temps but as long as it is not below the recommended viscosity it should be fine.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: Engine Oil?

There was a greek guy on the international dero site that had a complete break down of different oils for different bikes he recommended a 15/50 for the dero in a UK summer it takes away the clunk when selecting 1st.
My last oils were a 10/50 and now for the Autumn Winter have reverted back to 10/40 semi synth

    Re: Engine Oil?

i usually bung in halfords own 10W40 semi synth as its got all the letters and numbers and ive had no problems, and its cheap. (cheapER). but as i said above in the service they put 10W30 fully synth in. the handbook states 10W30, but as i said i dont think the varadero is fussy. i would think 10W50 is fine for a greek but our summers are simply not hot enough to bother changing. 10W40 semi works for me, all year round

Hein Gericke 4T semi synth was my oil of choice. It meets all the specs and is £13 for 4 litres. Last time I bought some they had all sorts of deals on the go and I ended up getting 4x4l cans for just over £8 each.

    Re: Engine Oil?

HG have their own branded oil now but i think its still motul isnt it? thats who they dealt with before.
as long as you change every 6mths it doesnt really matter anyway, it doesnt give cheap oil time to break down
