Hi
I am selling my baby vara and it's service ran out last month. I am getting the MOT done tomorrow but was wondering if getting the service done would increase the selling price dramatically or not.
Any advice?
Thanks

some questions first,
which mileage service is it, ie what needs doing?
if its a biggy (how big is it gonna be for a 125?) i would say get it done as it would affect the resale, as in you can advertise it as just being done.
if its just an oil change then do it yourself and keep the receipts which you should be doing anyway
how old is the bike, is it still in 3yr warranty period?
if it is thats the first thing a knowledgeable buyer will ask for
if its pretty old i wouldnt worry about it, it sells or not on condition
Hi
Sorry, i should have put all that info on the initial post.
The bike is 05 baby vara with about 16k on clock. The service is just the annual one I think. It had a new battery couple of months ago and new brake pads last year
With it being 5 years old will the service affect the sale price?
Personally i wouldn't think it would make a huge amount of difference, not like it's a 16k service on a vfr800 which is an engine out job. Secondhand value of the bike is going to be comparitivly low so you could haggle over the selling price if it's a £100 or so for the service. General condition is more important than a service stamp in a book if the bike is in good condition it will show it's been looked after.
When i took my varadero for the 32k service this he said it probably wouldn't need anything being done but i had it done anyway and he was correct coolant was still ok which i knew, carbs weren't out of balance valves didn't need adjusting did have a front cam chain tensioner replaced as that was starting to rattle.
So i wouldn't worry to much if it's only oil, oil filter and air filter and general check over do it yourself and keep the receipt for the bits purchased

Apparently having a full service history adds a few hundred pounds to resale value. Over a long period it's probably not financially worthwhile; the money you'd save on several services would make up for the loss of resale value. However, if your bike has FSH so far, it could be foolish to mess it up now.
