    RD03 Value

A friend has asked me what I think this bike is worth. I don't know much about 03's so can anyone give me an idea whether it looks like it's worth it?
I know that you will not have seen the bike but a rough idea would be good. He will go and have a look to assess its condition and he knows his bikes so he won't buy it if it's a lemon. Thanks folks.

It is a difficult question to answer.
It is a collectible model but the valve is dependant on what you are willing to pay for it.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: RD03 Value

What's up with the front mudguard and fork protector fitting? Doesn't look right. Those crash bars look like a fast way of breaking your ankle too. Other than that and the non-standard seat, it looks reasonable. Value is difficult to determine without knowing what other faults there are. Mileage is low but is there proof of the mileage?

Worth somewhere between £1500 and £2300 depending on rims, calipers, output shaft, shock, linkage, calipers, pads, tyres etc.

The seller says it is 'literally bulletproof' so I wonder how he tested that and whether you'd get a refund if you shot it and it wasn't

I understand that but what I was hoping for was for someone to say "They do go for that sort of money" or "They never go for that sort of money"

Cheers Alan. Just the sort of advice I was hoping for.
The fork leg protector is missing on the near side. Could be why it looks odd.

Well, they do go for that sort of money if they are in great condition but £2300 is a bit rich unless it is completely sorted with nothing wrong with it. The start price of £1600 would be a reasonable price with a few odds and ends to sort out. Basically, the price could be spot on or it could be way off depending on the reserve and the actual condition. If it was me I'd give the guy a real grilling on the phone and then see it if he sounds genuine. The RD03 is a nice bit of kit and if the mileage can be proved (big if), it could be a good bike.

    Re: RD03 Value

I've seen far better RD03's going for less than £1600 in the last couple of years, and if the owner thinks its an amazing example rating 9 out of 10, he needs an eye test urgently. The bodywork looks clean but the rest of it is fairly dirty and generally looks unloved, not a bike that has had lots of care lavished on it in the last couple of years.

Besides the missing fork protector, non standard hand guards and seat, why isn't the right hand fork protector clipped into the mudguard? Either bent fork brace or broken lugs. Lastly, the mileage, 17k in 21 years!!!, and being an import, probably no documents to back it up. I think my first question to the seller would be to prove the mileage.

    Re: RD03 Value

    My thoughts.

I always look at RD03's and for some reason that one looks familiar. The crash bars are the things playing on my mind, and I'm sure the last time I saw that bike it had some strangely shaped panniers that were painted white and made out of plywood. The panniers were like half a circle I seem to remember, and it was spoken about on here.

If it is the same bike, it went round on eBay twice, was for sale in East London, and I'm sure there was some question raised about the output shaft, so you need to check carefully.

OK, so is it worth it?

Well in my opinion a bike is only worth what you are prepared to pay, so ou need to convince yourself that it's what you really want and is the best you can get for your money. Unless you've got a box full of spares and are good with spanners, any required parts or work will cost you.

I'd say £1600 as a starting price is stupidly high, unless it is a cracking bike, and to ask £2300 is really up there with the fairies. I'm guessing the seller doesn't really know his AT's, or is trying to recoup some costs he's incurred.

I wouldn't pay £1600 for it (but I am tight and would haggle for any AT) but I'm not saying you should write the bike off. It's certainly worth looking at, as they don't come up often, but it does look like there wouldn't be a lot of room for haggling.

Last time I looked there were a few on ebay.fr, so check out whats on there for a better idea.

    Good Luck

    Bob

    This one perhaps?

What makes you think they are the same one?

I've just answered that by comparing photos. Disc cover missing. Tax disc mounted in same place. Same handguards. eBay ad says it comes with rear bars too. Probably 127,000km if that is the case !!!
