XR600 Off Road (What's it Worth)

A work colleague has asked if I'm interested in buying his XR600
The bike is stolen recovered and can't be put back on the road.
I'ts a 1997 model and in really good condition, a lot of money was spent having the top end of the engine rebuilt.
He has asked that I make an offer on the bike
I dont want to pay a fortune but at the same time I dont want to be seen as trying to steal it off him.
So the question is What's It Worth?

i wouldnt pay more than 600 even then ide want the papers from the insurence to conferm its stolen recovered not just stolen
a friend of mine got caught our with a stolen recovered bike he lost the bike and the money he payed hey its recovered now tho..lol

If it needed a top end rebuild it's odd's on the bottom end won't be far from needing work. You can only use it off road, so i would value it at £500 top's, so long as the engine/gearbox sound's ok for now.

To be honest it's worth more sold in bit's.

As mad4 says, if it's stolen/recovered there should be a reciept from the recovery firm. Otherwise check with dvla on frame number.

I think the message here is approach with caution.
Having spoken to my colleague this morning he tells me that the bike was taken off him by the police, they checked the bike but had no evidence that it has been stolen, He has the paperwork given to him by the police.
Maybe I could put it back on the road Q plate?
We are talking about £400 to buy it.
