Leave luggage on bike or sell seperately?

(Hope this is in the right sub forum, if not, sorry, and if a mod could please correct my spelling of LUGGAGE I would be most grateful)

Sadly my trusty Transalp must go . I took it to the local dealer to see what they would offer me for it as a sale, and apart from the insulting price, they said they wouldn't take the panniers as one has some small scuffs on one side. My question is, do you think I could sell the bike privately with the panniers on? In my mind the damage doesn't look that bad but I suppose I can understand why a dealer wouldn't want them in a showroom next to brand new bikes I guess. Heres the damage:

Other than that the panniers are in great condition, have only been used on 4 occasions, done about 2,000 miles, have the colour match panels (could easily be removed or resprayed) and the inner bags, and the rails are in very good nick (the exhaust side on has a small amount of paint bubbling from the exhaust heat).

If you think I should try and sell them seperatly, what do you think they would be worth, given that new from Honda this lot would set you back over £650?

Put the bike up with the panniers for the price you want and see what happens.

Did your spelling correction (took me a while to work out how to do it). Fixed 'seperately' too....and at no extra charge!
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

See I was thinking about putting it up and just seeing what happens, because I know a bike like this with luggage will be a more attractive proposition for a buyer if it has full luggage. But what I'm not sure about is if it would be off putting with the scrapes on there, as people may think it makes the bike look like its been treated worse than it has etc, and obviously I wouldn't want to put buyers off...

Those scrapes could have done in the garage or the shelf where stored
anyone buying will be looking at the bike with boxes as part of the deal it’s tastier.

Trying to sell afterwards would mean placing them in fleabay for a pittance where they will probably be bought by a dealer for resale. Let them go with the bike, as part of your strategy “ I cant budge on the price but can add the panniers for free with inner bags…. blah blah blah” emphasise the free if they meet your asking price.
    Anything else in the pipeline???
    Stay safe

Part of the reason I bought the TA I did was because it had full luggage. Advertise with the luggage, it will make it more desirable in my opinion.

Those marks wouldn't put me off. Luggage is going to pick up all sorts of marks, there is no way you could keep it immaculate.

Very good points. I guess I'll put the bike up for sale with full luggage then and see what happens. Cheers for the advice Stumpy, Snaphappy and Nessmuk

Faced with losing my job - or if by some miracle I manage to avoid the redundancy scythe, another pay cut - plus various other personal things that have been making me a miserable prick the past year coming to a head, I can't really afford to keep the bike for much longer, so better to sell it now while I am ahed. I would sell the car but its only worth £600 and that wouldn't get me very far. So unfortunatly nothing in the pipeline as yet, but when I get myself back on my feet, I'll have a bike again

Life can serve some sh1t some times, dont let it get you too down its harder to get back up from a dark depth. try and keep positive and you'll get there quicker
Good luck for whatever gets thrown your way

The other thing you could do is say fackitt sell the car sell everything bar what you need to and ride off

Get a product called Armorall (Check spelling) from Halfords or similar and wipe onto the scuffs - bet they disappear. Alternatively get some Grey Polish and polish them out.

If you use the Armorall you will then have to wipe ove the whole pannier - it will come up like new - I think it is a silicone based cleaner, UV protector and general alround good stuff to use.
2000 Black and Gold with MRA Screen, Motad Venon Exhaust + Custom Stainless Ankle Guard, Bagster Tank Cover, Dash Clock Cover + 12V, Facet Fuel Pump, Givi Crash Bars, Givi Pannier Rack (Modified for Stahlkoffers), Givi Top Box, Stahlkoffer Panniers, Pro. Mod. Seat, CR Footpegs, Michelin Anakee 2 Tyres, Sat Nav., Hel Stainless Brake Hoses, K&N, Headlamp Mesh - oh! yes. Huge Nut attached to Handle Bars

Cheers Snap . I subscribe to the school of thought that **** always works itself out. I still have way too much to tie me here, but just selling everything and riding off is still the dream. Maybe when I retire... . It would have to end better than his did though, look at the state of his face
