Wheel rot-how much is allowed for mot?

I have some wheel rot on my TA. I'm posting on here because this section is far busier than the TA one and a wheel is a wheel. Regarding the MOT how much is acceptable? The bike's been sitting for a few years and there is some rot near the spokes. The spokes have surface rust too but none are loose or can be moved where they go through the wheel. I've searched motuk (I think it was) and it doesn't say anything about rims but just the spokes must not be corroded, broken or bent. I'd be happy using some chemical metal to tidy it up but is it worth me putting in for the MOT? I've been after a second hand wheel for ages and have been the subject of a broken agreement on here once (nearly twice I think) already.

I can't afford a new one or a rebuild with new rim and spokes and the bike only cost me £400 so couldn't really justify it neither. I suppose if the spokes are structurally ok I could get just the rim.

    Any advise will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

How do you mean... Wheel rot? ..... Is it the coating that has corroded... or is the metal underneath it perished?......

If the coating is fuxored, then tart it up and MOT should be ok...

If the metal is reducing itself to its former base element then ffs .... dont even ride the bike to the MOT station....

Er...the second one. I've already ridden it to check the brakes! It's not crumbling to touch but I reckon some could be got out with a screwdriver. It's on the dimple. The spoke is firmly in there though and it's only on one or two.

    Dont sound so bad then....

have you used a spoke key on the affected ones... and managed to maintain tension?.... or does the key , slip and re-tighten...

Haven't got a spoke key. I'll have a play with it tomorrow if I can and post a pic. I wouldn't ride something that was obviously dangerous.

Thanks Ox. Keep an eye on this thread if you don't mind.

I have moved this to bike tech as it is more appropriate there and you may get a few more responses
