    GOOP?

    Afternoon all

Has anyone ever used GOOP? You know the goo that you put inside your tyre tube in case you get small punctures? I bought some but havent yet put it in the tube... i keep hearing baaaad things about it, but it sounds quite a sensible idea for those of us who commute.

Anyone had any experience of it? Good or bad...

I've never used Goop but do have Ultraseal in my tubes which hasn't caused any problens. You might want to check if it effects the speeds rating when you've got it in (I think Slime does, but could be wrong).

I've Slimed both tyres on my dirt bike and haven't suffered a puncture.

It does say something about speed ratings on the bottle but that's not going to trouble me!!

Mind you, I also have a tiger repellant in the garden and have seen no tigers since it was installed!!

    Yep, me too.

Apart from the 1 puncture from a 15mm split in the tube which I wouldn't expect it to fix!

Gives no hassel up to about 100mph on knobbly tyres.

ive used ultraseal and punctureseal brands, they have saved many a puncture. i work at an aero engineering place and im forever getting pop rivet tails, bits of locking wire and screws in my tyres. always in the rear though, never had one in the front why is that do you think? (ultraseal leaves a little red splodge when it fills a hole so you can see)

    Re: GOOP?

I have used Ultraseal in tubeless tyres on my Triumph and it saved me from three!!! punctures in my rear tyre on a trip to Ireland a few years ago.
This year I suffered a puncture in the rear of my AT fully loaded on the M11 at some speed. The inner tube had a 3" tear in the inner surface where it had just given up through weakness or fatigue. I had installed punctureseal before the trip and it definately saved me from a crash. The puncturseal (or any other similar sealant) could not hope to hold such a catastrophic failure but what it did do was to flood the area between the tube and rim with sealant thereby sealing the spoke holes and temporarily created a tubeless tyre arrangement. Obviously it could not sustain this indefinitely and the tyre gradually went down over an unknown number of miles. From the first "that felt a bit weird" to "theres definitely something wrong here" I must have travelled about 5 miles. If the punctureseal hadn't been in there. I wouldn't be writing this now.
I won't ride without it in future

    Re: GOOP?

Had a flat rear tyre last time home, first time I've used the Slime in anger, works well. Not so sure about the front tho, my mechanic reckons it might be a little unstable in the steering dep't at high speed. I would use it as a "get me home" though. I find their mini compressors(Slime's), the dogs danglies as well, small and very compact.

Yes, but it only repels tigers driving Volvos.
