    Tyre pressures for tourances

Just re-booted Dolly with a pair of Tourances and I'm unhappy They seem all over the place, I know it's grim out there, but my worn out Distenzias were sooooooo much better. (yes I have given them a couple of hundred miles to scrub up)
Loads of you rave about the Metzelers so I got to wondering if I've got the pressures right. The web site gives a range measured in 'bar' I was wondering if any Dommie riders had a more accurate value in PSI.

    Cheers

I really rated the tourances on my BMW, so I put them on my old RD03 and couldn't get on with them.

I emailed Metzeler via their web site to ask for Pressures for a TA. Got a quick reply and a bit of chatty dialogue. Will see if I still have the email address when I get home.

Checked out the web site and the tyre fitter has them right at 1.5 bar (about 22PSI) which seems awful soft Wind was up today and it felt like I was getting blown off the tread. Turning is all twitchy and any half decent lean angle leaves you thinking the front is sliding out from under you. Bloody horrible
Any ideas?? Should I pump em up a bit??

    Re: Tyre pressures for tourances

I run tourances on my @RD07a. I'm putting a new front on tomorrow - well Ride-On in Glasgow are, and when they do, I'll ask for it to be blown to 32 PSi. I run the back at 30PSi and I have no problems with them at all, even in the weather we are having up here of late - I was out and about all day today and even with a worn out front, I had no problems at all.

I reckon you are running them too soft..............

Yep, reckon I'll pop out to the shed and take them upto 33psi front and back and see what happens. Can't get any worse, and it does feel like it's all gone a bit floppy down there
Had a look in the honda manual and it states low pressures in the tyres too, but I'm thinking that's for when your in 'off road' mode

    Re: Tyre pressures for tourances

this is the reply I got from Metzeler in August about tyre pressures and a TA:

    Dear Austin,
    Thanks for your enquiry.
The recommended pressures from Metzeler for the Tourance's fitted to your bike are:
    Front 29psi
    Rear 33psi
So the rear is closer to what you prefer. You may find running a higher pressure that the tyre wears out more quickly. This is due to the load being spread over a smaller contact patch. With a higher pressure, you can also experience a reduced ride comfort and 'feel' from the tyres. However, if you are happy with the pressures you have, they are within a reasonable tolerance of what we recommend. But please be aware of the potential issues regarding wear rate and ride comfort.

    Kind Regards,

    Jim Worland

    Metzeler Moto UK

(the stuff about higher pressures was in answer to my observation that many people find Tourances are better at much higher than recommended pressures)

Thats nice to know.I have been running the Tourances on my TA at 29 psi both ends like wot the sticker on the swingarm says.I shall perhaps stick a bit more in the rear one.
