    Puncture repair

Has anyone heard of using self tapping screws to provide a roadside emergency puncture repair for tubeless tyres? A bloke at work swears by it and reckons it has saved his bacon a couple of times and always packs a couple of screws and a small pump whenever is is on a longer run.

    Anyone else heard of this?

I've heard of 'rope plugs' for tubless tires...used them on my GS and they worked well but I ain't never heard of 'screws' that can fix a flat. All they do is give me flats.

I have heard of this trick, however I have never used it... thank God! I think you are supposed to put a bit of tyre glue in with the screw??

Personally, I use Finilec or similiar or the RAC!

    Re: Puncture repair

I have used repair kits with rubber bungs and glue for tubeless tyres.
I found it OK and am sure it would have lasted a lot longer than just 'get you home'
the little gas cylinders only put tyre up to about 15psi,better than nothing. A small footpump would be better.

I've had to use rubber bungs/glue a few times over the years and they are definitely capable of more than a getting you home. I usually replace the tyre fairly soon afterwards simply because I do a lot of motorways and dual carriageways, but in all cases the tyre has remained pretty strong while I seek the best deal on a replacement tyre.
