I have used Serviceline in St Boswells for years, great guys, very helpful and a couple of them are also bikers. Tyres bought from them are fitted free to loose wheels, I think they charge a tenner a wheel if you drive the bike in. Obviously there is a charge for balancing and new valves plus £1.50 per tyre for disposal.

Ah, well if you go to Crief I can see what you mean about scrubbing in the new tyres on great roads - there are some cracking ones skirting the Ochils. Thanks again for the recommendation!

ive been there in the past, and protyre in fareham were ok but prices have gone up and both are beaten by russ' bike tyres in hilsea. cheaper and knows what hes doing being a rider himself. i trust him enough to ride the bike there and let him change the wheels, where the others i would only take loose wheels in case they buggered the ABS sensor or something.

What's the deal with balancing? Important? Not?

Very important, something else we charge for.£££££

I have a motorcycle balancer but never bother on my own bikes.

Quality modern tyres, such as the Anakees on my own bike, are so well made they have very little balance problems.

I (and a few others here from memory) don't bother either, and it doesn't seem to cause vibes like an unbalanced car tyre would either. That said there are bound to be times when the balance is really bad. As I understand it, balancing is supposed to reduce wear as well, but at the savings for buying a discount tyre and fitting yourself, reduced tyre life would have to be severe to make it worthwhile.

    Russ's bike tyres

russ wont fit a tyre unless he balances it too, he doesnt charge extra (valve, valve body rubber bit and balance are inclusive and hes still one of the cheapest around) and it only takes 5 mins. he only charges extra if you want a 90deg valve
