So I just bought a top cover on ebay Germany and bolted it on.
Oooh clever. I may even have an extra one lying around somewhere.

    Not me.

Don't really have anything much to brag about but I fitted a BSM road legal exhaust and discarded the rubber snorkel from under the seat together with a nice free flow foam filter it pays dividends, my seat dyno says it has gained about 5 bhp.
I would like to go up a size in main jet but don't know if i can get one anyone?

Well, I don't know what it's like where you are, but over here you can just order them new from the Honda dealer.

The best modifications to any of my trail bikes was a decent set of Renthal handlebars. On my XL185s I bought a trials bend bar so that it was easier to stand up on the footpegs and not have too much weight over the front.I bought a spring loaded chain tensioner from Sammy Miller as well as a lighter exhaust/silencer section-but this rotted away really quickly.I owned the 185 back in 1985 and it was a shame to sell it.My XL250s was a basket case and I rebuilt this bike completely while I still had the 185.
I too enjoy tinkering and now have a fully kitted workshop with lathes (a small Myford ML7 as well as a bigger Harrison),a milling machine, pillar drill (floor standing),a parts washer,a grit/bead blaster which is fed by a compressor, two hydraulic ramps...and a fridge for storing the spare wheel bearings in.This last item is useful for storing beers as well.
Being an electronics engineer by trade does help and comes in very handy when doing the electrics on bikes.Wiring looms...easy.

    Re: Let's talk mods

I have a '88 xl600v-h, which was pretty standard when I got it.... except for one of the previous owners put an overide switch on the cooling fan, so you just manually turn it on/off... great for long low speed ride outs like M'cr Toy Run etc....

I have done the following so far:

-Fitted blue LED lights around the engine bay
    -Fitted Oxford heated grips
    -Taller screen
    -Front spot lights
    -Engine guards/Crash bars
    -Re-covered seat
    -Fitted top box
    -New Iris X-Ring Gold chain
-Changed the plugs for Irridium ones
    -Custom exhaust end can
    -Shortened the rear mudguard
-Fitted LED combined rear light unit (rear light and indicators)
    -Removed rear indicators
-Fitted new mirrors with indicators built in
    -Fitted 12v socket

    Still to come:
    -Aluminium side cases
-Full re-spray into black and silver
-Perminant camera mount (currently attached to helmet)
-Errrm.... don't know what else yet, but sure i'll find something to mess with...
