I'd say anythings possible. Could be the wrong switch for the bike or someone's soldered on different wires.
What colour wires have you got on the bike to the switch?

As you've already got a diff loom, why no get another lock, should sort all the probs.

At the moment I've got three wires coming out. A red one coming out of the top right hand side terminal and a red/black out of the bottom right hand side and a blue/orange next to that one. Some one has definately been messing with it. As you say I think buyin a new ignition is the way to go. Found a place in southampton that will do a new switch and keys for £26 so think that is probably the way to go.
Been round it with an electrical tester and all the other switches seem to be working as they should. So it's just this one that is the pain in the ass.

Wemoto do a direct replacement for your XL600LM ignition switch for £29.93 - will plug straight into your existing loom

As you can see from the picture - clearly identifies the Black/White, Red, Green, and Black wires.

Just noticed that my original drawing shows 2 Black & White wires - the one on the left (IG2) should be BLACK ONLY not Black / White - sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for all the help so far decided to buy a new ignition, I know it's cheating really but what the hell. Got it fitted and tested tonight, and there seems to be power going to all the right places so gonna fill it with oil and a bit of fuel and have a go at pushing the button tomorrow, so fingers crossed! Will let you know how I get on.

Also noticed tonight that none of the lights seem to be working, so will be back with lots more questions soon.

It looks like it ain't producing a spark now as well althou there does seem to power going everywhere so hopefully it's just a dodgy plug. Was wondering if anyone knew how to get the plug out coz I can't get my plug spanner in to the gap coz the frame is in the way. Is there some sort of special spanner to fit it???

I use one of these (I don't know the English word):

Mine is sawed off so it fits below the frame tube. It's also possible to weld a socket into it so that it can be used with a ratchet.

Re: Please help if you can.

Thanks for the help so far. This is a great site. The problems just keep coming. It appears that I did have a spark after all it was just my emergency stop switch was wired the wrong way round.
My next issue is trying to work out where the fuel pipe goes into the carb, as my manual is not too clear in showing where the fuel pipe goes. I've got three possible places where it could go. I've got 2 on the left hand side and 1 on the right handside. The right handside has a piece of pipe on it all ready which makes me think this is the one. Where the one on the right goes in there seems to be a pipe that connects the both together. However the manual says that the fuel should go in to one of the left hand side nozzels.
Was wondering if anyone could help.
