    help with paris dakar xl200r

does anyone know where this xl200r paris dakar bike may have come from/
this is a google image and not the actual bike!
    http://www.hondaxl.it/popup_immagini.htm?id=075
mine is simmilar but black engine and drum front brake.
i think it is an italian import.
the rolling chassis and the big tank and seat may well be for sale at some point.
    any help would be great

Have a look at the top of the seals and see if you can read off the size.
They maybe the same as mine and if so you can't get them but you can fit a 2mm deeper seal and just get the circlip back in!

The bike you have is the same as 2 I have minus the big tank (altho' one came with a massive Acerbis tank on). I'm doing a road going one with indicators etc and an off road one stripped farely bare but still road legal.

Let me know if you ever need any help/parts etc as I have come across some useful contacts.

Oh, if it's not already registered I doubt Honda will be able to help as they were unable to provide me with a date of manufacture only a date of sale (which is no good) and I had to find someone privately (an importer) who could 'guess' the date!

    All the best

    Stretchy.

Re: help with paris dakar xl200r

are you on the tbm forum? if you are i am plugspanner from there.
thanks for that info, but i only got the bike for the elec start engine, i am putting that (after modifications) into my xr200r special.
i am not sure what to do with the rest, i may well end up selling it as a rolling chassis.
i reckon mine is about 1985/86, as it does not have a disc brake, they do seem to be quite rare, although there are at least 5 amoungst us htb forum members.
has yours got a delorto carb?
if so that is easy to get parts for.

Nice one, yes I'm Stretchy(man) on TBM, you can read about my exploits on there. OK I'm doing pretty much the same as you. This all started because I missed out on buying an XL200R that someone had put a 6 speed box in, kick start, and Kwaka forks and disk + altered timing (U can advance the timing 1/2 tooth); so I decided to build my own!

What part the country you in?

Bristol here but I'm from oop Narf; Lancs.

Not too far then, we'll have to meet up and compare notes (have seen your posts on TBM). Do you do any of the lanes around Bristol/Bath?

Re: help with paris dakar xl200r

me and my trail buddies have not been trail riding for a few years, due to the almost total ban in somerset, and we also compete in trials and that has taken more of our weekends, i am still trying to get out and about as we can still ride lanes in east somerset, around shepton and frome, but we never seem to all be free at the same time.
i have riden some on the lanes around nristol and bath but that was quite a while ago.
