Taping up the headlight so that the beam does not go to the right is apparently allowed for the MOT.
Don't expect too much from your generator - It might not be up to running two lights at the front.
Head bearings are pretty easy to do. As already said, have a good drift ready. I always seem to find that the hardest bearing to remove is the lower one that is on the bottom yoke. It may be wise to have some heat or a grinder available in case it is tricky to remove.
