Exclamation Afew Honda XLR 125 Questions...

    hello all

i'm new here, i have a Honda XLR125 trail bike and have done since jan of this year heres afew pics...

iv just today had it Pre-MOT'd and it failed on quite afew bits:

    Rear tyre close to limit
    Front tyre worn to excess
    Head bearing excessivly notchy
high beam idiot light always on
    no horn
    no idicators
    no stoplight
    chain loose
    no side light
    headlight too low
kick up to the wrong side

so all in all alot of work... my first question is... how hard is it to replace the head bearings? my local garage have quoted me 80 + VAT to do the job?! not sure if thats good or bad..

i do alot of miles (about 150 miles a week) so its used a hell of alot... anyway here are my questions for you:

secoundly...i have the original back tail light which comes up from the rear mud guard and over the reg plate, its horrible and id like to get my hands on one of these...

any idea where i could pick one up from?? would it fit my xlr 125?

also another question i have is i also want to replace the front section of my bike as it was stolen not long ago and i had to buy an aftermarket front panel and light unit which is REALLY bad, if it rains i cannot see a thing!!! so i want to sacrafice looks for performance!!!! i think these would light the road up nicely???

again same as before, where can i get some and will they fit my xlr 125?

    any help greatly appreshiated

    have fun!

Head bearings aren't too bad to replace do if you have done them before, especially on a trail bike like yours which doesn't have lots of brake pipes/fairing/cables in the way. £80 probably isn't too bad if it includes the parts as well.

If you do it yourself you will need to be able to support the bike when it has no front forks/wheel on it. You will need a decent drift to tap out the old bearing races in the headstock and a tube to tap the new bearing down onto the triple clamp.

M&P used to do a universal rear enduro mudguard with the tail light built in, very similar to the picture in your post. Try looking on their website to see if they still do it. I assume you might have to do some work to it to make it fit, but probably not too much.

There are a lot of aftermarket front headlight/nacelle units out there, the problem is knowing which ones give out decent light. Hopefully someone on here will have tried some of them and can give you their advice.

Polisport make a rear guard like that. It's a universal fit so you have to drill fitting holes. Plus the light has the clear number plate light at the bottom. You'll still need to fit a small reflector to get through the MOT.

i am a bit surprised on some of the fail items, my bike is 2005 and does not have indicators, did yours fail becoause they do not wortk, or not fitted?
mine also has no side light and all of my other registered bikes do not or never had one.
what is kick up to the wrong side?
    thanks

    shaun.
UK has a "kick up" to the left on the headlight beam. Stick your front wheel against a wall in the dark and you'll see it.
European headlights kick up to the right.

It allows you a better view of the side of the road without dazzling on coming traffic.

i wondered if you meant the head light, but on a bike they rarely aim correctly anyway.
my xr200r only lights up the front mudguard, so would be hard pressed to dazzle anyone.
