    help xl250r wiring

    hi guys and girls,

wondered if i could dive in to the pool of knowledge on here! i have a 84 xl250r fitted with a 1981 cb250rs engine! it was on the road but since the rebuild i have decided to just use it for pratting about on.

what do i need to connect. i would like it to ruin with minimum wiring? ideally with the kill switch still wired in! the guy who had it before me mucked the wiring loom about so the colours dont macth the diagram which is always handy!

    thanks

    wayne

For sparks you'll need to use the black/red from the alternator, this is the power supply,
2 wired multiplug front the clutch side of the engine, this is the pulse generator, (blue/yellow and green)
    Black/yellow from the coil.
Black/white from the kill and ign switches.
    Green is the earth wire.

All these wires go to the CDI. Hopefully you've still got the multipugs with enough wires on it.
Connect these up but leave the black/white for now. If all is working and correctly wired you should have sparks.
The kill/ign cuts the engine by shorting the black/white wire to earth.
    Hope this helps.

Black/red from the alternator to CDI,
Multiplug from clutch side to CDI, (2 wires, blue/yellow and green)
    Black/yellow from coil to CDI,
Black/white from ign and kill switches to CDI and
an earth wire to the CDI. (green)
I'm assuming you have the multi plugs on the loom and CDI?
Give it a go one wire at a time.

Should be 5 wires on the alternator side and 2 on the clutch side?
    What colours you got?

    Re: help xl250r wiring

Think this still has the XL wiring in the engine.
2 in a multipug should be one pink one yellow. Bat charging.
Is the green light green with a red stripe? Neutral light.
If it's a green the same as the - bat lead it's earth.
White/yellow is off to the light swith for headlights.
Which leaves the blue which should be (or is normally) black with a red stripe to the CDI as power supply. The only wire needed from the alternater side.
Time to let me know what colours you have going into the CDI.

i will see if i can get a picture of it on here! it might be a bit easier. all in all i have six wires currently connected to the cdsi. i took the wiring loom off the bike intact.

does it matter which wire attahces to which plug within the cdi!
