Re: xlr 250 sticking brakes

Most likely is a sticky caliper piston.

Re: xlr 250 sticking brakes

It could be that the pins on which the caliper are allowed to float are seized. If it is, you need to remove the caliper from the bracket and clean up the pins. This may be difficult. as it was on mine. I had to drill a hole in the end of the tube that the pin is supposed to slide in and use a drift to knock out the pin. It may be that only one pin is seized, but whether it is one or both, it may take an afternoon or so to do it. In the seized state, the caliper cannot centralise about the disc, so one side becomes more efficient than the other, and hence the uneven pad wear.

Clean up the pins once you have it apart, lubricate with copper grease, and all should be well.

Re: xlr 250 sticking brakes

Make sure you clean out the groves in the caliper where the seals seat.

Rubber grease is best but brake fluid's better than nothing.
