    1st Registration MOT question

Hi all, I took my unregistered XL250s bought from ebay (where else?) for MOT today.
The tester decided in his wisdom that it wasn't an XL but an L250S as that's what it says on the Japanese Certificate of Cancellation of Registration document and the chassis number starts L250S.
I've Googled L250 but nothing comes up.
Do UK XL's have XL on the chassis number or are they just the same as mine?
Is this likely to cause problems with DVLA and if so, any ideas what I should do?
    Thanks folks.

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

    Hi Nick.

In the worst case you will have to contact Honda UK with the frame No and ask then to tell you from their records exactly what year and model your bike is, that will ensure you get the correct details on your logbook and a year related reg No and not a Q reg. Any info you get from Honda Nick, get in writing so you have proof for the MOTer and DVLA.

Sorry I can't help with the year/frame No question and also many XRVers are away this weekend, I just didn't want you to think you are being ignored.

    Regards.

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

Hi and thanks for the reply. I'd wondered about contacting Honda UK but don't know how helpful they'd be as it's classed as a personal import.

I've got proof of age on the Japanese documents but the idea of a Q plate is a bit worrying for insurance etc. Never owned a Q plate before.

Think I'll get as much info as possible before sending the forms to DVLA.

Only failed on soft shocks so that was quite a result!

Nick, don't worry Mate, come Monday you will be flooded with help when everyone gets back from Wales, the Q reg thing is only enforced if you cant validate the age, make or model of a bike. I am sure if you contact Honda UK technical department they will help you get sorted I had a problem with an imported Suzuki once and contacted Suzuki UK and they gave me all the info I needed via email so I had written proof from the maker, sorted!. All the information is there for you, you just need to speak to the right person to get it.

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

I had a xl250s, also a Jap import with the chassis No starting L250S.
Everyone knows it's a XL other than your MOT tester.

I would not think you will have too much trouble. My Rd,s do not even have the full frame number on the log books they are 1A2 3456789 for example on the frame but the log book just states 3456789 without the 1A2, and i know of several like it, this is why it pays to take the log with you when going for an mot

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I've just been unlucky with the tester.
Like you say, everyone knows it's an XL.

I went to them because they're supposed to be into 'classic' bikes and have a couple of early RD250s for sale at £1800 and FS1E at £1600

I don't have the logbook as the bike's never been registered in the UK and would prefer to get it right first time rather than trying to correct mistakes later.

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

The Yams were £1800 each, one was an RD (1972 I think) and the other was the previous model (YO1 or something).

The condition of either wasn't fantastic, £1800 the pair would have been more than I'd be willing to pay!

    Re: 1st Registration MOT question

I've been in touch with Honda Uk who will write a letter giving the bike's model and date for £25 plus VAT = £ 28.75

Understandable that they might charge but this seems a bit dear to me, or am I just tight?
