Xl600lm

Picking my xl up on tuesday its been sat for a while not sure how long seller said anything up to 12years but it doesn't look like its been stood that long to me
Anything i should check before trying to start it
going to put new battery, clean carb, new plug and flush tank and put in fresh fuel and oil.
Plan is to get running before stripping it for a full rebuild at least then i know what i need to do.
Any common faults i need ti know about?
Danny

Re: Xl600lm

Use cheap oil for the first couple of starts as it may need to be flushed through.

Re: Xl600lm

HI take a valve cap off and pour a cup full of oil into the head, and if your fitting a new plug put a squirt of wd40 into the hole to break any dry sieze before the piston moves.
If it hasn't moved for a few years the tyers and tubes will be goosed and cracked so be carefull before ripping off down the lane, same with brake pads-lines-fluid.Other than that give it a twist and enjoy it......

Re: Xl600lm

Hi i personally use castrol 10w40 both in the twin and the xl.semi synth gps does it for me as to the letters after xl600 it denotes the model change/run/engine colour/year and so on though they lived from 83 to 86 ish before they lost the plot alltogether. if you go to wemoto and type in xl600
http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn and have a look around you will get the gist of it soon enough......mel

Re: Xl600lm

and Danny the oil pump pumps oil around the engine not into the manifold on these things. you have camshafts and valves to deal with
and it is NOT meant smoke out of the exhaust
