engine id

thank you catteeclan for telling me that i have xl motor and not a xr

but i still need to know what wire i need to hook a coil up to get spark

it has the number l250se-5105927 on it can anyone tell me what year range it is

Copy n pasted from xr.

You'll need a coil and a cdi unit to get a spark.
The two trigger wires plug into the cdi along with an earth and the black/red from the generator.
Coil needs an earth and the black/yellow from the cdi.

i ve been looking for a cdi but the only one thats in my price range on ebay is for a xl500 would it work

It would get it started but won't run correctly as the timing map will be very different. I'm sure you'll find the plugs are all different too.
Think I'd hang on for the right one.
