    XL600r

Been lurking for a while but have finally bought an XL600r something I've always fancied!
It's a 1984 model in er 'well used' condition. Had it a couple of weeks now and have got it starting easily and reliably from cold and when hot without the aid of a hill. Have re-covered the seat and fitted indicators but still need to get rid of the ghastly and not very effective headlight unit just keeping an eye out for something a little more appropriate, do like the twin headlights from the LMF but where would they be available from? Also replacement side panels, are pattern parts available as I have so far been unable to locate any. Any help appreciated.
Been out on Sailisbury plain and had great fun with it, okay a little heavy but appears to be more than capable for my needs and considerably lighter than my other bike. Look forward to seeing some of you out there over the summer.

    I like the XL600r Kev

Look on the bright side, with summer coming you won,t be needing the headlight much anyway

I would think ebay would find you a replacement headlight and suround panel, not sure if you could fit one from a xl350/250 at a push.

    Good point!
By some miracle a breaker in Bristol advertised parts from an RM/LMF yesterday and I was able to get the twin headlamp unit and cowling for a sensible price With a couple of small mods to the existing brackets the headlamps are fitted and with a couple of new bulbs are working! Now in the process of tidying up the cowling. When finished I'll post a picture.
    Regards,
    Kev

    Re: XL600r

Ive not had a XL600r before, but i remember my old XL500r had a nasty habit of sometimes just conking out just as i was about to pull away from junctions or traffic lights.
There was nothing more embarrasing than pushing the bike to the side of the road in front of a que of cars, then kicking it over til swet dripped into your eyes before it would fire up again

Be good to see some more pics of your bike

Happened all the time with the Armstrongs.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

If the headlamps are the old bulb type then the Africa twin lamps are a direct replacement and obviously give you H4 bulb options......

Thanks that's worth knowing, they are the old type and clearly not as 'bright' as the H4's but okay for now. Should I break a lamp I could replace it with the Africa twins.
Have got the cowling stripped, sprayed and re-fitted tonight and well pleased with the result so will take a picture in day light and post it here.
