Question XL engine into an XLR frame

Hello to all,I'm new to the forum and my XLR125 so excuse me if I sound a bit daft! Can anyone help? My XLR 125 is a bit worse for wear and I have the chance of an XL 125 engine, a 2007 model, together with the exhaust and plastics. Now this would be an ideal scenario if i could swap the lot over! Can anybody tell me if any or all is possible? Cheers!

Re: XL engine into an XLR frame

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The best way to tell would be by the engine numbers, it is possible that the mountings are in a different position which would mean NO it will not fit.
But I am not too sure about this bike.

Thanks for the quick response ,I guess that parts of the engine numbers will be the same if they fit?.If thats the case I'll need to find out both engine numbers.

Re: XL engine into an XLR frame

you may be lucky and it will slot right in where the old engine went. dont think Honda 125 engines are much different year by year.
anything can be made to fit anything else with a grinder and a welder tho.
that is the last resort of course

Re: XL engine into an XLR frame

these engines are identical in virtualy all respects on the outside, the problem may lie in the electrics and ignition.
the mounting bolts are the same and in the same place, the xlr engine is just a better designed xl engine anyway.
what is wrong with your engine?
unless you can get the xl engine cheap, you may find that you need a different ignition, and some wiring chamges.
good luck

Re: XL engine into an XLR frame

Hi thanks for the reply. My engine has a burst Generator casing and a snapped stud in the exhaust cylinder head plus could do with some rings. I think I would be better fixing my own engine. The XLR is a better engine I hear. Thanks everybody who replied.
