    Stickers for Xl600 LMF

    Hello Fellow Honda owners

Do any of you know where i may be able to purchase some new decals as i am carrying out a restoration project. Also does anyone have any information on the red engine paint ie: what type is it, colour code etc

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

I think you'll have problems getting the paint, especially 20 odd years on. Some people use engine enamel i've heard of powder coating but never of any success. Mel jordan is the man to speak to he has just restored one and painted all the panels so he will have an idea of the codes he used.
As for the engine i used to paint the blocks of my escorts and capris with 2pac and never had any problems and it stayed shiney.

    good luck

Thank you Mel for the help with the stickers..

I have seen your LMF - job well done !!!

Love the dakar mods, very tastefull and not OTT.

Do you know the RAL no of the engine paint ???

    What paint did you use?

I have bits of mine being painted at the mo- everything black i can get done for free at work in powdercoat i have had the frame powder coated white and think the engine should be done in a heat resistant 2 pack-

Any advice would be much appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Andrew

    Thank you Mel

    much appreciated.

I want to make sure the paint is good- esp if you want to use it, not just spend all its time wrapped in silk in a heated garage !!!

What is to be gained from fitting an oil cooler (i have seen from your pics) obviously cooler oil = longer lasting engine. Does it really boost performance- surely it has sufficient cooling for itself without any mods ?

Or did you uprate something ??

    Thanks again for your help.

Well the xl has a habit of cracking its own head between the sparkplug and valve seats which lets the seats drop with the obvious result.the best way to avoid this or stop it getting to the point where the engine is fooked is to fit a cooler which helps keep a suprising amount of heat away from the head and an improved oil feed up to the head by using a flexi pipe with a bigger bore, or even drilling the banjo bolt out to improve the flow. Simple ideas which help keep a great bike in the dirt......

    Thanks a million MEL

Do you think i should get this aerosol as apposed to getting it painted in 2 pack ? I have it blasted ready for paint

Obviously it would cost less to do it myself but i was prepared to have it sprayed. How good do you find this paint in terms of durability ?

How many tins did you use ? Did you strip back to metal or did you paint over the old paint ?

    Thanks again MEL

If you have it back to metel then 2pack and it's allways best to let the pro's do it though the spray paint is fine for touch up and general cover ups......
