Life for me has just been so hectic- car failed its MOT so had to get it through- brakes, exhaust etc etc
Then i have been getting my yamaha ready as i want to sell it
Super Tenere For Sale
been on holiday to scotland and am currently visiting my sister.
Danny i eventually got pissed off with the original graphics man as despite 3 calls and 2 emails he couldnt be bothered to provide a quote.
I will ask the guy i eventually used- welsh did a superb job.
Deffo next week i will post up some progress pics.
Ok everyone i have finally managed to spend some time on the bike
here are some pics of what i done
Here is all the plating- mostly from the bike frame and ancillaries- currently i am awaiting the return of the engine fixtures. As you can see i refurbed the hooter which looks good- i sandblasted it and sprayed it with hammerite spray paint.
The tappet covers, flywheel bolt cover and brackets i rubbed down with emery and then polised them using autosol with a dremel and mop.
The footpegs above were powder coated - i just reassembled them with the newly plated pins and springs.
The clocks have been polished up and reassembled using re plated fixtures.
Above is todays paint achievement. I used an etch primer to give the paint a good key. The paint is VHT (which everyone seems to be using) (dont worry i masked off the oil feed pipe- it just looks as if i didnt !!)
My plan is to assemble small assemblies where possible without attaching them to the frame. The reason for this is i think i want as little on the frame as possible for when i slide the engine back in. Once this is done i think the bike should come together quite quickly.
My other project at the moment is i have rubbed down the rear mudguard (it was dirty and scratched) and re lacquered it- its not ready and i need to put more coats of lacquer on as i have rubbed throught the lacquer while trying to polish !!!

Nice looking bike.
I have a XL 600 LMF on a C reg. plate bought of E Bay earlier this year as a non runner. Had been standing for a couple of years after the owner returned from a trip to Turkey and back. There is a small crack on the frame at the bottom of the oil tank, is this a common problem? hope to have it welded before long, all prep work done. Side pannels missing, no luck so far in finding replacements. Will side pannels from another model fit? My aim is to get the bike up and running then dependant on how it's running undertake the refurbishment to get it ready for my trip of a lifetime to Turkey on it. Anyone out there done a similar trip or thinking of doing one? Any advice would be more than welcome. Len![]()
Looking good mate your doing a great job
Out of interest how much was all the Zinc plating? As you know i did all mine but it is a real time consuming process i may just farm it out when i do my next project.
We will have to meet up somewhere when yours is finished would be nice to see the 2 bikes together![]()
