Xl 600 LMF rebuild by Andrew W

Hi everyone

Firstly id like to thank everyone for their help and advice up until now. I thought i might start to post a few pictures here so you can get an idea of my progress. Any questions/ comments/ suggestions would be much appreciated as this is the first rebuild of this scale i have undertaken.

These are the original pics i have of the bike of when i bough it on ebay :::

`

Now most of you might be thinking- not a bad looker- wrong. ... a couple of scroats stole it, little bastards. I suppose i should be thankful i got it back in some kind of condition- but it doesent help that the police do absolutely nothing about it. Anyway back to the bike.

So far i have stripped the bike down completely minus the front forks and rear swingarm. These have a couple of scratches but nothing major - i don't think bad enough to warrant a rebuild. The screen you see on the pic was damaged in that they broke a bit of the fibreglass and the screen- i could probably fix the fibreglass but the screen- it is anyones guess where i could find a replacement.

Anyway here are some strip down pics: - most of the electrical damage was done by the scumbags- pics of the tank i will put on later when i get to painting it.

this is a pic of the top yoke where they smashed the ignition barel off.

When i first bought the bike it had a small oil leak - maybe 1 drop after a long trip. Nothing like this - this turned out to be a partially blown head gasket

Obviously they revved from within an inch of its life with the evidence below

OK i have had a play this morning and figured out how to post pictures to the thread.
1st put them in an album then copy the url below pic in album
2nd click insert image on new thread and paste the url in the pop up box.
Well it works that way for me
Will be putting a few more pics of my LMF up later would be good to see how yours is going.
I have painted my engine with the paint recommended by Mel and it looks NICE Just waiting for a few bits to arrive before i can finish it and stick it in the frame.
