What a bummer......!

I bought the bike...petrol in tank... then started to renovate her.!
loads of time spent on the petrol tank.... wet + dry the high build primer coat last nite, swilled her off.. final coated it today ( looks magic )
only to find a drip of water coming from the inside which probely got there after swilling last nite, breaking through just above the edge weld.
Now What?
Can they be welded or brazed??? or does anyone know about tank linners out there ?

Re: What a bummer......!

do not on any account put that sh1te in your tank please please please, i say that cos i have used it 3 times and every time it has come away and had to be removed, i thought it was good came highly recommended by the local bike shop, sealed 3 tanks in quick succession, one GN 250 that did last about 8months my red Rd400 one that lasted about 3 months and a Rd 250 one that lasted 2 years before letting go, you then have to buy stuff too remove it, clean the tank out and start again a long process
Use a POR15 kit from frost restorations it is cheaper in the long run

Re: What a bummer......!

I used Petseal on two customer bikes i semi restored. Only installed as they would'nt pay for a proper back to bare metal repair. Never heard from them that it had failed.
Glad you had success with the Frost product Merv, but it's all resin with hardener is'nt it?
Did you do that thing with the nuts & bolts and shake the tank about for a day. ? Great form of exercise or a way to work up a thirst.

Re: What a bummer......!

no the frost one is not a resin hardener it is a single liquid like thick silver paint in the tin, maybe i was unlucky but it said a little light rust is good to help it,and none were particulalry rusty just had leaky seams and the GN one had a hole behind a badge maybe i should have should have rattled some bolts around in em

Re: What a bummer......!

If its just a pinhole, you can garantee that the surrounding material is ready to perforate.
Was the metal scabby around the hole on the outside or the inside?.
Soldering with gas and brazing rods, not plumbing solder or carefully, mig.
Any pics?
