    xl 250 engine strip

    hi i am a new member to the forum and have just bought a 1980 250s , my queston is can the bottom crank case half be removed without stripping the whole engine as the kick start return spring has failed ? thanks for any help

    I thought they were vertically split cases

    If the engine is a XL250S type then it's a horizontally split crankcase.

    honda crankcase 82 83 partsmanual fiche xl250s 80 xl250

    To replace the spring you'd only need to remove the clutch cover. While it's off then check the gauze oil strainer as this is the only filter on the bike.

    Sorry, the kickstart return spring is in the gearbox and I think it'll be difficult to change without a full engine strip.
