    XR400´s exhaust baffle

I´ve just reserved myself an XR400 that I´m going to bring home this week, and there are a couple of things I´m going to have to get for it, am cruising e-bay for them but wondered if anyone here has an exhaust baffle they would like to sell, that thing that is removable from the silencer that most people seem to remove and loose before they sell the bike.

It was fun on the short blast I had last friday, but I think it´ll wake up all my neighbours (and family) when I start the engine on a saturday morning and let it warm for a minute

    Hi Peter,
If you find a loss of power and a big flat spot with the bit fitted, let me know and I will give you the detail's of what I use which stop's the noise but gives full power and no flat spot..cost ....................£5

Well, even if I won´t need it I´ld still be interested in knowing about it . I´ve never been on a dirtbike before, so I don´t think I´ll need improvements in power soon.

i have a xr400 with a super thumper 440 high compression big bore kit on it. on the dyno it only made 29.6bhp but it makes 67ft/lbs of torque at 2750 rpm thats with a dep can. it can easily piss all over my mates standard 400r. if your looking for extra power well worth the £200 for the kit

Hi, I've just got myself an XR400. Great bike but a bit noisey. What is your secret solution, dazzerrtw?

    Re: XR400´s exhaust baffle

Now this may sound like a p-ss take but I have used these on my last 3 XRs

It's the old style VW Beatle tail pipe ..you may have seen them ,they have 2 poking out the back of the car.
They are a perfect fit, just tap them in with a rubber hammer, I found it best to leave about 2 inch showing out the back of the XR exhaust.
They cost less then £5,keep the noise down and if you remove the snorkel out of the air box ,it get's ride of the mid range flat spot.
I have never found that the standard XR400 needs any more power ,,but that maybe because I'm a crap rider .

Let me know how you get on ,and if it works for you.....

This has worked for me... XR now sounds like a cross between a 4 stroke and a VW camper!!

    Glad it worked.
It sounds so good when you shut the throttle going down hill.
And best of all it cost less then £5

I've just done this myself today, but it isn't any quieter, probably louder if I'm honest!
So I probably had a bog standard exhaust and just didn't know it. I assumed that it had been tampered with, any way we'll see how it goes.
I might keep an eye out for a road legal exhaust.
