    XR touring, daft idea??

Just got back from 1500m round trip to Loch Ness from Pontypool. Fantastic riding once you get off the m'way, up through Glen Nevis to Fort William; could smell the coconut heather as I headed north. Arrived at Loch Ness just as the bbq was ready; perfect.

My question is could I have done this on a tweaked XR400??

Love the tranny but I realised that I like riding slowly, 50-60ish, and am keen on minimalist touring a'la the long thread on advrider. Would also like the oportunity to mess about a bit when at my destination, plus having thrown my leg over an XR400 this evening I love the light weight feeling.

Bigger tank maybe (adds weight I know), more powerful stator for bright lights, 50/50 tyres.... am I deluded?

    Hi.Fridge

The XR 400 will tour with no problem. You will need a larger tank and a bit of a screen to keep the wind blast off you.
Here are a few photos of my XR400R which I prepaired for a 4000 mile round trip to Morocco last month.
If you need any more info please let me know.

It is very do able I have known a few people who have done it on stock bike. but a bigger fuel range would be a piece of mind.

I could well also be going this route, the TA being just too big for serious enduro use, and the TTR just too small to be the only bike I have!
An XR400, then some little changes should just about fit the bill!!

Oh bugger, I'd hoped it was totally out of the question then I could stop getting all excited!!

dazzertw; have seen your other posts, amazing pics and defo an inspiration.

Guess the thing to do is give yourself time, plan a route avoiding long stretches of m'way and enjoy the scenery.

Better start looking for a bike then....

I've bought a Spitfire screen which seems to be similar to your screen, but can't see how to mount it on the handlebars. Do you have a pic of that area?
