    XR600R update (finished ?)

Well not quite an @ but still a Honda with that nice made in Japan quality feel (but crap weldling ) but at £550 on a R reg 3500 miles and years of sitting in a barn doing nothing just rusting away had to be saved from turning into iron oxide (wife has kept very quiet ) and should make for on ripping green laner in the summer (in the winter I think I'll stick to my lighter and more nimble KTM250 with electric start !) .......if all else fails I should be able to sell it on

    Its number 6 in stable

Just got to remember back to when I owned a XBR500 (basically the same engine) the rest is child play (umm rusty nuts and japanese made of cheese phillip's screws ) Needs a bit of work to get to state worthiness to grace Northy fussy bugger garage but I've seen worse on the road.

Looks like you got a good buy there.

I have a 98 model with SM wheels for when I feel like being really silly. The seat is all day comfy compared to the more modern stuff. I can cover 200 / 300 mile days no problem, while mates on KTMs etc are whinging after an hour. A bit of a handfull on tricky off road sections, but good fun.

    Nice one
I've got the same year and damn near the same mileage. But paid twice as much
Bought mine after selling my Duke 2,so I could do some muddy bits and I'm well happy with it.

It needs a bit of work doing to it but it should clean up well, looking forward to roosting a few mates not looking forward to kick starting it

Dazx max ......what starting technic do you use ......as I'm going to attempt to bring it to life over the weekend and I'm dont what to be kicking my guts out
(oil/filter change , carb clean, new plug, air filter etc before hand ....old hand at this ! .......old legs too ! )

Unfortunately this model is fitted with an automatic decompressor which makes finding TDC/compression a pain in the ass.

Anyway, from cold; petrol on, choke lever on (top position), find compression, return kickstart lever to top then give it a strong fast kick (no throttle). If auto-decomp has been disabled find comp pull decomp lever in and move kickstart another 2",return to top then strong fast kick.

If it's been stood for more than a couple of days I need to drain the float bowl first.

often, if its hot, or has been laying on the floor , it needs full throttle to start.

I find it starts better with 'super unleaded'.

A lot of the 600s were the european market restricted 'U' model (33bhp) the restriction was the inlet manifold/stub, smaller jets and choked exhaust end piece.

As you are obviously an experienced trail rider you will know all this stuff but a reminder is always usefull to jog the old memory

P.S. If you've got used to electric starters, I find it helps to have the left foot on the kerb or a step. (but I'm an old knacker )

I,ve never had a problem kicking mine over from hot or cold.Even when it's been laid up for weeks!
choke out,no throttle, fires first or second kick
(unlike my Husky, which nearly had me in tears of rage with the bugger)
    Specially when it was hot.......

Well I've got her up and running and onced started, starts up fine even when hot as well , very easy and no broken ankles ....easier than my old EXC300
I'm now stripping her down and cleaning, greasing etc and generally tarting her up and getting her ready for an MOT, so she should be roadworthy in couple of weeks time easy ...........ready to roost !
