    Xr400 with edelbrock carb

Got a 96 xr 400 has an edelbrock carb on it, dont know much about setting them up or maintaining them.

Any experts on here got any advice. Starts perfect every time, even when dropped (which happens often). Burns a bit oil, but not too worried about that. Biggest prob seems to be when running on roads or at speed and sitting with low revs or slowing down the engine seems to daudle and stutter a bit, ok when revs are increased though.

Not a huge prob but thought id see what advice was offered might be worth messing around with it.

Don't know much about tuning carbs but before you do have a fiddle make sure the air filter is nice and clean it could be the cause of your problem and is only a ten minute job to do.

Put a nice new one in it already few weeks ago, made a good bit of difference, bike starts fine and runs not a big deal but like to get things just right.

    Re: Xr400 with edelbrock carb

    Hi,
I've got an edelbrock carb on mine, there's just setting on it:-
the bottom end is sorted out by the screw on the top of the carb, to adjust it you wind the throtle fully back then you'll see a slot which when you turn it to the left will make it leaner- when it's right it should pop very occasionally on the overrun.
The other adjustment is on the side, this looks after the top half of the rev range IIRC it should be 2.75 turns out, when set up correctly there should be no hesitation when you open the throttle at any speed or hunting when you are at lower throttle openings
You can download the manual from the edelbrock site.
I put mine on becaus eof the easy starting, the standard carb is a nightmare if you drop the bike another plus is the increase in performance
When it's cold you should blip the throttle around 5 times and increase the tick over and away you go.
    Hope the above helps
    Cheers
    Andy
