    XR250R or XR400R???????????

Ive have just sold my 2004 TT250R Yamaha litterally half an hour ago and really want an XR. Some say the 250 is best other say the 400 is better as it has more grunt, some say the 400 is to much off road and the 250 is the better option. Ive had off road bikes since i was 9 years old so Ive been riding them for 23 years now. Im 16 stone when fully kitted up and 6ft1 tall so im not really a shortarse feather weight (dont mean to offend anyone). Im not great at off roading, never entered or done any competitions or anything but i have ridden off road quite a bit, im probably slightly better than your average novice. Should i go for the bigger XR400 due to my size ,wieght and experience or would the 250 be better. I sold my TT250r as i wanted something with a little more poke, not a lot but a little. Your views and opinions are welcome

    Hi unclesparks
I'd go for the 400 not much difference in weight but i found the 250 lacked power on steep climbs.

if your going to be doing much road work then the XR400 is the one.

The XR250 is a good bike, But the XR400 is a great bike.

Hi Sparks, I think with your off-road experience and build this is a no-brainer - it has to be the 400.

The 400 for sure. Not because im selling one you understand
Nah, obviously i'd go for the 400 as i have one and i have the 650 version aswell (thats the only reason im floggin the 400 cause i love the bike but its a bit of overkill having both). Its just a nice tourqey bike without being silly. They are ultra reliable and even more reliable than the 250 due to the fact you wont have to be hunting for grunt as much if that makes any sense?!?!?!?
Some people say they are a pain to start. All i have to say to that is try looking after your bike and keep it in fine fettle and it well start easy no matter what it is.
    Anyway, thats my humble opinion.

I think it is the same answer as years ago for the old superdream.
Cosmetically the 250 and 400 looked the same but the 400 was more manageable with the extra cc, plus it seemed more economical because the engine could handle the bulk better.
So go for a 400 it will make sense later.

Yep another vote for the 400 here!
You sound like a similar weight and size to me, and it suits me well.
Mind you the 650 looks good.

im the same sort of build as you ive had a 250 and a 400 the 400 is a much better bike all round. but i soon wanted more power! do what i did and buy a xr650r so much better its a lot more modern bike taller seat height and stiffer suspension bags of power it go,s anywhere you want it to staying on it is the fun part
the 400 is a good bike but the 650 is so much more

Oh no, dont get me started on a 650. I think i will follow most peoples advice and go with the 400, plus its cheaper to tax.
