    XR400R Snorkel

Hi XR people. Just got me a 2001 xr4 and very pleased I am too. Smooth (for a single) with a great spread of grunt. After years of old skool kit (the last being a 1973 ts250) this bike is sooo comfy and fast off road.
Anyway, the bike seems to have the airbox mod, the snorkel is missing and the intake roar gets a bit much after a few hours. Does anyone know the type of snorkel the 2001 model uses? I've checked the Honda diagrams and there seems to be several different designs. Hey, even better does anyone want to sell me theirs?
    Any help appreciated

it's a common mod to take the snorkel out, some people believe taking it out gives more power and gets rid of a flat spot around 4000rpm. I've had mine in and out and it really doesn't make much difference either way. I got a used snorkel for my airbox from john at xrstuff £5.00

your more than likely will find a loss of power of a big flat spot with the snorkel in place.

The way of reducing the intake roar is to remove the seat and then stick some Duck tape between the top of the air box and the frame ,this also help's prevent any dirt or water getting into the top of the air box

I have also used duck tape to block the gap's between the rear mud guard and the frame, you can see once the seat is off these gap's allow dirt and water from the back wheel to get into the air box.

    Hope this help's

Coudnt you just cut the snorkel down, just keep the top bit and cut the bottom bit off or would this not work.

    Hi

By Removing the snoekel from the top of the air box give's you a larger open area on the top of the air box this will allow more air into the carb ,I have always found the XR to run better with it out.

You will also notice a better throttle responce with it out.

Only way to know for sure is go for a run with it out and then on the same track with it in ,then see which you think is best
