My xr400 needs winkers, some advice please

I have invested some hard earned cash into a 03 Xr400 , and shes a beauty

Can anyone advise how easy it is to fit indicators , the switch is already there on the bars so that bit is all ok i,m guessing i will find a couple of wires from the housing.

So is it just a case of wiring them in , which is where i need the help

    Pics will follow

    cheers

My friend runs Wimbledon Motorcycles in Sout West London, and he fitted a pair to mine as part of a sale agreement. Look them up on the web and give him a call: I'm sure he chelp you get hold of some.

Hi Simon, under the speedo assy you will find a black electrical connector which will need connecting to a indicator relay (which you will probably not have fitted as they were never fitted as standard in the uk), then you will find a couple of spare wires (orange) is for left hand indicator (light blue) is for right hand indicator and (green) will be a earth for both indicators.

At the rear of the motorcycle, you should find the same colour wires tucked up under the rear light assy.

Once all connected, they should work with the engine running.

I may be in the same situation soon. Does the flasher unit need to be special, or does it just need to be a standard 12V unit as used on a bike with a normal battery system? I understand that it will have to be suitable for the indicator wattage, but at present, I'm not sure if there is a normal smoothed 12V dc supply.

If you just want to plug a relay straight into the standard wiring loom, then you can order a Honda relay part No 38301 KZ1 951 otherwise You can use a standard type winker relay for 21 watt bulbs, but you will have to adapt the connection to suit your relay. The black wire does supply a steady 12 volt DC once off tickover.

Hi , cant find black connector under the speedo , the only connector is the one from the indicator / lights & horn switchgear on the bars , is this the one you mean , has 3 wires going into a black block connector ?

    Any ideas ?

    cheers

Yes it does come from the l/h handlebar switch, sorry for any confusion. I just meant that all the electrical connections are under the speedo unit.

I thought that was what you were saying ! its a 3 pin conector , so a 3 pin relay is required , which is standard Honda fitting , i think
