HI, new here, but an Huge xr fan.
I have some how managed to snap the tip of my xr250r 'gear selector shaft' off.
The splines are damaged on the remaining part of the shaft. The splines on the inside of the lever are not great.
What i did was spot weld it first, but that only lasted half hour. Then I got a mate who was a bit better than me to weld it, but not much. Lasted for an hour then.
Any suggestions to keep in on, without splitting the engine to change the shaft??????????
I recently finished a rebuild of a xr200r and that would be easier to change as the shaft passes the whole way through the crankcase. But on my 250 its only half way so it means stripping it down. I don't want to do this as it running 100%.
The only think about welding is that it heats up the shaft and it might damage any oil seals, was lucky so far.
If any one out there has any ideas how i get a quick fix for a few months would be very helpful.
I will do my best, as I am only new here, to help anyone I can.
Kind Regards
GarytheHat
