    Throttle cable on a 98 XR400???

Is the open and close cable on an XR400 the same?

Have tried to replace a snapped one, but it seems way too long to fit correctly.

The broken one has a little block with a hole drilled through and a screw to grip it as well as the welded block at the end which slots into the pulley wheel piece on the engine end (hopefully that makes sense).

The new cable just has the blocks on both ends!!!

Are the two cables different as if so, I have been supplied the return cable and not the open one.

If they are the same, then I'm screwed and haven't got a clue how to fit the damned thing properly!!!

Please tell me I have the wrong piece!!!

No the 2no cables are different, they are different lengths and different connections to the throttle.

I was supplied the A cable with the understanding that that was the 'open' cable. It would appear that it is the 'return' cable!!!

Does anyone know for sure if the B cable has an adjustable block to it?

Pics would be very helpful too!

A 'B' cable is on order, so hopefully will be able to enlighten all by weekend.

    Fixed it!!!

With the original cables as it happens!!!

The cables supplied from the Honda dealers were

    17910 KCY 671 Cable A
    17920 KCY 671 Cable B

They were both too long and everyone seemed bemused as to why they didn't fit!!!

Even checked the make and model were right from the chassis numbers!!

So, stupidly why I didn't think of it first, I tried to re-use the old cables and firmly re-fit them into the small, metal block/lug type thing at the end which holds the wire in with a screw (similar to the old type wire connectors in a 3 pin plug).

Anyway, with a bit of fiddling and cursing and a scraped knuckle or 2, I fitted them back in, and surprisingly, open and shut of the throttle works fine (so far).

Am still at a loss to where to find replacement cables if these don't last, but for now, we're alive and running again.
