    Oil Filter For XR400

    Dear All

I'm going to do my first oil change soon. A couple of questions:

I take it it's best to use a genuine filter?

The local Honda dealer has quoted me £11 for a filter. Does this seem about right?

    Cheers, Fulmar

I always use a pattern part - normally a hi-flo one, less than£6 depends where, and better oil. Works for 10,000 miles ++.

i get mine from here http://www.mdracingproducts.co.uk/ there about £2.00 ive also read that the xr runs a lot better if you dont use synthetic oil as it can cause the clutch to slip,

I always use genuine oil filters they're only a couple of quid from dealer so no point using aftermarket ones

I would recommend genuine or at least a quality aftermarket product like Hi-Flo. I have seen some of these cheaper filters collapse in on themselves and break up, causing blocked oil ways. Saving a couple of £ now could cost you a fortune later on.
