    oil screens

Just carried out an oil change on a recently purchased XR400. Oil drained and filter replaced without any hassle, however I couldn't budge the 19mm nut under the oil tank where the oil line joins to remove and clean the screen. According to my manual this needs to be undone to get remove the screen. I had a breaker bar on the socket but it seems stuck fast. I'm reluctant to put any more pressure on this nut until I know for sure that I'm doing the right thing.

Anybody else had this problem, or is the manual wrong?

    Cheers,

    Gav

There's a brss guaze up there that collect **** from the motor and stops it going back in, i've never had any problems getting mine undone before you also have a strainer inside the righthand engine cover

Don't worry about taking the screen out, if you have a particle in there that is big enough to be stopped by the guaze... I would say you have had a major engine break up, or dropped something inside the filler.

Just change the oil & filter regularly and you won't have any problems.

I've taken mine out a couple of times but never found anything in it, but I would remove it until I broke it so I had something to fix if its not broke twiddle with it 'till it is!
