Help!. Running problem on xr650r. fuel coming out of overflow

Some help would be gratefully appreciated.

my XR650r has developed a problem,(and pushing it 3 miles back home has given me a back problem - lol).

i was running along a straight road low revs when Bang! and the bike engine stops.
wont start again and when i do kick it over fuel is running out of one of the pipes coming from the bottom of the bike (overflow pipe from carb).

after checking air filter, fuel tap and spark plug. no problems.

started the bike after it cooled down. ticks over great. rev engine gently its fine. wind throttle back quickly and it does not fire in the engine. can hear engine popping but without firing. quickly come off throttle and the engine runs on tickover again. but with fuel pouring out the carb overflow pipe under the bike.

Help! any ideas, am thinking its the diaphram! one other factor is that the bike was filled up with fuel 2 miles previous. and the bike was already on reserve! might it be worthwhile putting different fuel in with carb cleaning additive that is if the fuel i put in was contaminated.

any information or ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Sound's like you have stirred up muck that was in the tank (or water in the new fuel.
That would make the float valve stick coursing the fuel to over flow.
Then muck blocking the main jet would course it to cough when opened up.

Take the float bowl off and have a look.

Thanks for that - will take it off and check it. just finished emptying the tank and going to go get some fresh fuel from a different garage.
