    check your chain slider!

    My bike is currently undergoing a overhaul/refit and its in a million pieces right now.
    Im fitting a 280kit and the bottom end is coming appart too now (can of worms)
    I found a broken cam chain tensioner, worn cam chain, missing cam chain guide(!?! how? lol) worn kickstart idle gear bushing and the countershaft bearing is worn and loose in the housing! (a common ailent i believe)
    This means im having to split the cases and venture deep into the unknown! lol
    But the most surprising thing ive found in my overhaul is the drive chain has worn through the chain slider and started eating into the swingarm!

    Its warped it so bad that the swingarm bearing jus fell out when i removed it.
    Anyway, check your slider and replace it if its worn
    (even tho its £40!!!! for a bit of rubber, outrageous)

    yea probably. I found 1 aftermarket one for £25 but there was no pic or info or anything! and the yanks all recon the pattern ones are dog sheet; too noisey and wear fast.

    The second half of the story is;
    decided to fill up the groves with a bit of tig welder action (shouldv been no problem)
    Worked fine, (splattered a bit but i thought nothing of it, im no pro and i can never get the gas flow right)
    But when it came to removing the excess weld, i found my file hardly touched it?!?
    i thought fair enough, angle grinder it is!
    The grinder hardly touched it either, what the hell???
    Then it dawned on me, id been using stainless steel welding wire! no wonder it was bloody hard!
    What an ejit i know.
    Ah well, the chain aint gonna wear thru that again in a hurry lol
    Maybe i shud have cut it out and started again, but i had to hurry it on down to the powder coaters before they shut.

    85quid for shotblash and powder coat, frame and swing arm, not bad eh?

    Good price on the powdercoating,I paid 125 quid for mine,pricey but the bloke did an outstanding job and came recommended as he only does bikes.
    Maybe you should have carried on and made a stainless slider!

    An update on this;
    After spending £40 of my hard earned cash on this crappy piece of rubber from honda,
    Ive found one for £12.99 in the dirtbike express catalogue.

    Doh

    Some OE stuff does seem outrageously expensive.
    i was quoted nearly 400 quid for a complete valve set for my XR,from a Honda dealer,I nearly fell over
    (Didn't help that the missus was with me at the time!)

    Ouch.
    YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
