    1985 XR250 conrod trouble?

    Sorry for duplicate post guys.

Hello, I could do with your help please.
    http://members.lycos.co.uk/catuk353/

I've got the motor completely stripped down to check the crankshaft.

Reason I did it was at idle I'm sure I could hear a slight rumble/knocking in the bottom end.

Got the crankshaft on the bench.

Checking the play between the thrust washers at the bottom of the conrod on the crankshaft I got a reading of 0.45mm / 0.018". The side to side movement seems to me to be excessive.Up and down I can't feel any play.

My service book states 0.050--0.45mm / 0.0020--0.0177" to be standard side to side, so my reading indicates I'm at the limit?

Does this mean I need a new bearing, pin and washers and/or a new conrod as well?

In advance I've only found XRsOnly in the USA that do a bearing, pin and thrust washers kit (without conrod) for the 1985 XR250. Anybody know of a supplier in the UK and can anyone recommend a shop/company I could send my crankshaft to to have the work done as it's out of my capability to seperate the crankshaft.Lots of listings for 1986 onwards but 1985?

I've also got the new crankshaft bearings, balancer shaft bearings, camchain, camchain tensioner, camchain guide, and bottom cam gear here to go in.

    Thanks Chris.

Do you know for sure thats what the noise is?

Its within service limit, so i would hav said its ok

You would be livid if you bought all new, bolted it together to find the noise remains lol.

    All the best mate.

    Hi Jason, that looks nasty!
Thanks for the link but when I click on it, it takes me to 1&1 domain registering whatever that means?

I've just this minute checked on http://www.hotrodsproducts.com/index...roducts.search

and there's no connecting rod kit for my 1985 XR250. Mmmmm; me thinks I'm stuck lol

Give off road only a ring and speak to them, if they can't get them nobody can and don't forget it is a very common bike so there should be plenty out there.

As for mine thats what happens when metal fatigue and a 12.5:1 high compression big bore kit mix compony

ProX do kits for most off road bikes.

I have used these guys and had good service.- Grampian Motors. 0151 931 5009. they are in Liverpool.

If i was going to the expence of a new crankpin fitted i would have a new rod as well.
