    Thats it ! Wrong cable.

    Its always the simple things,

    has anyone any idea what the other bracket just above it is for ?

    The missing pull cable.
    3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

    1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

    I reckon so. My DR350 has a push pull arrangement too, I dumped the push cable years ago as it was always sticking and the bike seemed to work fine without it.
