    XR 400 ignition

    Hi There,

    I currently own a XR Baja 250 Im looking at a 03 XR400 tonight.
Can anyone tell me if I can put a key ignition on it? I usually ride to work and wonder if the secuity of a sterring lock is enough?

    Any comments would help!

    Cheers

    Martin

If its a kick start, then you cant put a key ignition on it, however you could put an inline switch somewhere to act as an imobiliser, I am sure you could get one that is key operated.

If its an elect start, then you should be able to.

In my opinion, a good chain / disc lock and an in line immobilser switch is as secure as a standard roadbike with key.

    Regards

No reason why you couldn't wire one in if you wanted too, might take a while easier just to disconnect the ignition module and carry that with you when you leave the bike as its very accessible but ALWAYS chain it up key switches don't stop them being put in the back of a van

    Cheers for the info!

Just been to have a look at the gike and it does not have a stearing lock?

It has a hole where one should go are they easy to fit?

    Any info would be welcome!

Chances are someone lost the key and drilled it out or at some point the bike may have been stolen.

You can buy new locks and then rivit them in but i personally wouldn't bother

Don't bother with buying another one, they can be snapped off easily by slamming the bars from lock to lock with force. Better off with a decent disc lock.
