when does it smoke?? Silkolene oil can cause them to smoke a bit on start up and when they're cold it's not something specific to the xr it does that on a lot of bikes. Is it drinking or using oil much??

Before diving in feet first and striping the engine ,it's worth changing the oil and filter.

Try silkolene 10/40 semiSynthetic...Friends that have used
fully Synthetic oil's on XR's have had this smoking problem.

They tend to smoke when started and if your riding behind them, they smoke abit when they shut off down hill.

If the oil change does not do the job, then it could be the valve stems or the ring's.

If the bike as been used for supermoto or riden off road very very hard, then maybe this is the problem

Do not use fully synthetic all you will end up with is a slipping clutch, personally try the Rock oil guardian it's better fo the bikes and cheaper and doesn't cause a slight loss of compression like the silkolene does if use too often

Where does it say use fully Synthetic

One of the problems useing fully synthic oil in XR's is clutch slip and we also found That they tended to smoke a use more oil.

That's why I only ever use silkolene 10/40 semiSynthetic been using it in XRs that have now done well over 20,000 miles with no problem at all
