Help. Rock snapped off bolt on axle holder.

Some help would be appreciate. i think the answer might be new forks.

    2003 Xr650r

Basically the 4 nuts on the front axle - a rock bounced up and hit one. snapping the nut and the thread clean off. so am left with 3 nuts holding it in place.

Do i need new forks or can the thread be replaced. the thread has been snapped clean off.

is it best not riding the bike till i get new forks. or am i ok with 3 bolts.

    many thanks

The remainder of the stud will have to be removed and a new stud fitted.

If you are lucky, when you remove the clamp there will be a bit of the stud left that you can unscrew with some grips. . . . if not it will have to be drilled and removed with a stud extractor.

Riding with 3 studs is your choice. (i have done it until i had time to fix it)

hire a hot air gun as the alloy fork tubes can corrode the stud and hot air does not deform like the Oxy HOT Spanners and will break up any loc tight on the threads.

Lol. thanks for the tip. my 2003 xr has been through so many winters and bad weather the stud was corroded into place. no matter what i tried. it would not budge until the expected ping. and there it is broken inside the fork!

out with the micro drill and the tap set. new stud now in place after drilling and tapping in a new thread!

oh so much trouble for a small rock!

Thanks for your help on this.

i got mine from my local dealer. any honda dealer can order them - they are only a few pounds each. be very careful when removing the remaining studs inside the forks. took me a while - drilling with a o.3mm drill first and working my way up. dont try and drill out full size with the first attempt.

if you are having no luck getting any - my local dealer can get u them. let me know if you have no luck - i will order you some from my local dealer - then you can just phone them to pay
