    Unusual exhaust

I picked up a full system for my XR600 on Sunday,as part of a deal with a new engine and the fella said it was quite rare.
After taking it out of the box tonight,it's certainly unusual. The headers are stainless steel painted with a thin coat of heatproof paint and the tailpipe is a Honda spark arrester, with a vortip? are these American parts?

hi m8, take the chrome arrestor out and you have a 1990 stock tail pipe with the single inlet port, the arrestor would be mainly used in the usa and the eu.

    Re: Unusual exhaust

    check this out

this is of a Honda xr 600 1988, mine was just about had-it and i was looking at changing the stainless front pipes for the two into one front pipe as the double header was only made for the year 1988 to 1989.
these pipes haven't been made for 10 years and are like rocking horse Pooh,
i was looking at a whole new pipe system for around £400 but this bran new tail pipe turned up on ebay last week and i won it for £22.
man i am a happy bunny now lol.

    Nice touch
The can I've got is stamped Honda Krizman spark arrester model 701.

What about the stainless headers, were they standard or are they aftermarket?

    Re: Unusual exhaust

standard headers i think as mine are stainless as well, i might be wrong.
the markings in your tail pipe are the exact same as my tail pipe, and original usa Honda pipe.
as i mentioned before if you take out that chrome end pipe you pig will sound just like a real piggie lol..
its a nice bit of kit m8.

    Re: Unusual exhaust

well mine passed its mot 2 weeks ago with the standard pipe no arrestor just a bazooka size hole lol and with a fair bit of rust.
but the new pipe is just sooo sweet.

    good luck with it.

btw what year is your xr?

Daz, the silencer looks the same as my standard 98 one with a 'Baja design's' insert . . . . . let's it breathe without being too noisy.

    Re: Unusual exhaust

    It's a 97 Kempouk.
Why would it have a vortip insert Airwolf? did the original have the same kind of set up?

    Re: Unusual exhaust

my other xr a 98 (but stolen ) had a silencer slid inside the bazooka hole with a muffler full of wadding to make it quiet.
i just undid the two bolts and took it out for the dirt.
the guy might have just swapped the original for the Acerbisend bit probably.

    something like this
