Wiring in xr 250

Hi there

My name is Peter and i own a 2002 xr 250. I have big trouble with wiring/light on my bike. The headligt, breaklights, turn and horn dont work and the voltage i get is around 4V. But the meterslight, park and numberligt work fine with 12-16V.

I live in Iceland and i think this is the only xr 250 here so the dealer dont have any thing about it. I nead some help and wiring diagram if you have some thing.

hi peter,
well the The headlight, break-lights, turn and horn run from the power created from the stator (generator) on your bike and the parking, and rear light run on a lot lower voltage decreased from the regulator rectifier, the bulbs used in the parking and rear light are only 4v that is probably why they seem ok.
it sounds like the stator isn't putting out the power you need,
does your bike have a battery xr250L or is the the bike relying on the stator ie; no battery like the xr250r.

i had the same problem a while ago and had to have my stator rewound, now my lights have gone from a glimmering candle to a bright white light.

i have a wiring diagram of a 600 i can show you, i don't think the electrics have changed that much.

i used these guys to re-wind my stator.

under your seat you will find an ac regulator and behind the headlight is the regulator rectifier.

if you click on my name and go to my web site on the downloads page you will find an electrical diagram for the xr 600, i doubt if there is much difference in the two bikes but it might just give you an idea as to how the electrical work.

Yes my Honda is a XR 250 R with out a battery. One thing, you talk about the bulbs in park are 4v (volts) dont you mean 4w (Watts)??

do you know how to measure the stator, i think i have to have some Ω scale to find out if its okey or not.??
