    XR Race Can

    Hi All

I have a alloy race can on my XR 600, no maker mark on it ( it came with the bike) it sounds fantastic, but perhaps a little loud, the outlet of the can is a little under 2", what is the average size of the outlet on XR race cans, it looks like it had a insert in it at sometime, so I could perhaps make another one , the insert I bought for the std can had an outlet of around 1".

Any chance of letting me know what yours might be and I will try and make something up to fit.

    Andrew

That looks to me like an fmf powerbomb exhaust should have a series of plates with a slight gap inbetween to let gases put and a blanked off end plate.

    spot on!
It now has no baffle packing, and is just straight through.Headache inducing loud though and didn't exactly make me popular with the neighbours, hence the standard pipe.still got the power bomb header though.

    Hi Daz Max.

Thanks for the info, how loud is yours ??

I do like mine, but I think it might be a bit much out trail riding, mind I did 90 miles off road on Saturday and no one said much

Last time I was up Boxhill with some mates from the KTM forum, the general agreement was that I might as well have ridden it with no exhaust at all!

    Hi Daz Max.

Did it make it much difference to the noise level with the packing in the silencer ?

To be honest,I can't remember. It was pretty muted with the spark arrester disks in place and the trouble is,after chopping it about to get it to sound a bit better,it made it too loud.
The "look at me" factor worked too well.I did indeed get looked at,usually with dissaproval and more than once by the Police....
I think it's all about striking the right balance. No one wants to ride a bike that sounds like a mosquito, but migraines aren't much fun either

    Hi Daz Max.

That's right, you have hit the nail on the head, when your out and about on the trail you don't want to be loud, but still nice to have a good single burble.
