    Question XR650R Improvements

    Hi all.
Recently i bought myself an xr650r. 2001 model with lots of extras. Unfortunately after a few rides the big end has given up the ghost. I have begun the process of stripping the engine ready for rebuilding but have got stuck getting the flywheel off. Need an M20 x 1.5 mm bolt to extract it.

I am thinking of getting a better rod kit (Carrillo / Falicon), high compresion piston kit 12.1 maybe and possibly a stage 2 cam! I have already fitted a full pro circuit system. The bike is riden both in supermoto guise and enduro. Any thoughts?

Also I have noticed that the standard headlight is like riding with candle power. Have any of you fitted a HID kit to one of these. Thought is that I will get greatly improved lighting but the power consumption will still only be 35watts.

    Cheers all
    JT

one thought springs to mind.please stay away from wales with that ****ing exhaust.enough damage being done by local morons without importing any.sorry for a negative post but why is it that the first thing people want to do upon buying a dirt bike is to make it ****ing earsplitting.other people have the right to enjoy the countryside without having to listen to unsilenced xr's.

have you tested the power coming out of the stator, the regulators can only regulate the power if they are being supplied with enough power from the stator.
as for the other mods, you here of people making parts of there bike better ie pistons, heads, exhausts, cranks, but can the other engine parts put up with the extra stress.
i would watch out to how much you improve the performance of the bike as the standard parts might not last as long, and you will find your self re-building the bike more times than you would want to.
the 650 is an awesome bit of kit as standard.
if you blew the big end with the basic setup then what might happen with a bigger bore skimmed head ect.
    be careful out there.

Ogri is right about exhausts and if you speak to more senior Green laners quiet exhausts mean you can go more places with out attracting attention to yourselves. South Wales, Gwent and Dyfed Powys ANPR police departments have all increased their OFF road motor cycle teams and also work in conjunction with the FC (who have paid for police officers and landrovers) are covering Wales like fly's on sheit.

Buy a road legal exhaust and be banished from Wales
I must have misread his post,I thought he was asking for help?,not debating the pro's and cons of exhaust pipes when green laning
    (which also wasn't mentioned)
The loud exhaust thing is an issue, when someone posts up about ragging through the middle of a pack of ramblers with an open pipe, but this fella was after some tech help.
I think you must have got out the wrong side of bed Ogri

Wrong side of the bed or not he's right.

Are you sure it's a 20mm thread not a 22mm like my Dominator and xl600?

Right or wrong,a new guy wants some help with his engine/lights,not a lecture on exhaust pipes

If you are really stuck give mike wright a shout at www.mwracing.net He is really good and used to race an xr650 in the british supermoto champs,on one that was rumoured to have 75bhp, I bought my XR650 (now sold) from him and always got good service from him.
